Accessible Transportation

The City supports regional and provincial transportation initiatives to improve the way people with disabilities can conduct daily business and access community services. These programs include those offered by Translink, SPARC BC, and North Shore cab companies.

Translink

Many of Translink's transit services, including SeaBus passenger ferries, West Coast Express commuter rail, B-line buses, Community Shuttle mini-buses, and SkyTrain rapid transit systems are fully accessible and most buses have either low-floor access or are lift-operated.

HandyDART

Translink's HandyDART is a door-to-door customer transit service that uses specially equipped vehicles to carry passengers with physical or cognitive disabilities who are unable to use public transit without assistance. Program registration and a small fee are required to ensure that each eligible passenger's travel needs are considered.

HandyCard

For those who live in the Translink service area, residents with special needs may also be eligible for a HandyCard. This non-transferable transit pass entitles people with disabilities to pay concession fares on Translink buses, SkyTrain, SeaBus, West Vancouver Transit, and West Coast Express.

SPARC BC Parking Permit Program

The City has a Disability Parking Policy that works in conjunction with the Social Planning and Research Council of BC's parking permit program. The SPARC-managed pass program enables people with disabilities to legally park in designated areas. Special parking allows people with limited mobility to safely access buildings and services in the community.

North Shore Taxi Services

Both North Shore Taxi and Sunshine Cabs have several taxis in their fleets that can accommodate wheelchairs and provide travel service for people with disabilities.
