Streets & Transportation

An efficient transportation system is essential to a sustainable and liveable community. The City makes it a priority to provide viable, unobstructed access for all people, including persons with disabilities or mobility challenges. In support of greener modes of transportation, the City encourages and supports people who choose more sustainable forms of travel, such as walking, cycling, public transit, carpooling, and car sharing.

The City has developed a comprehensive and multi-modal Transportation Plan to serve as a "road map" for North Vancouver's transportation system over the next 20 years and beyond. This Plan supports the City's Official Community Plan and is an integral component of the City's long-term community vision. The emphasis of the Plan is to increase the use of more sustainable travel modes, as that would also result in a wide range of health benefits, including more physical active, more vibrant streets, stronger community connections, lower per capita greenhouse gas emissions and less impact on the environment. The Transportation Plan supports the creation of complete streets that provide safe access and mobility for all users whether they are pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, drivers, able or with disabilities.
